What makes a great foundation?
“Something that everyone can agree on is that they want their foundation to make their skin look its best and last as long as possible,” says Tricome. “You achieve great skin with a variety of finishes, whether that is more matte or more of a dewy finish. I think more dewy, glowy foundation finishes are currently more popular with consumers. Everyone is very into skin looking like skin and having a radiant finish as opposed to super matte.”
Are there any tricks to making foundation look its best?
“Skin prep is the MVP here,” says Moore. “Freshly washed face with a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid daily works wonders. While applying foundation, I warm the foundation up on the back of my hand. I use a dampened Beautyblender so the foundation applies more smoothly.” Using a primer can also help, adds Tricome. “If you are using a primer, like skincare, you want to make sure it is fully settled into the skin and interacts well with your foundation. If you are using a water-based foundation, a silicone-based primer is not going to work in combination with that product.”
When buying a drugstore foundation, are there any tricks to shade match?
“Know your undertones, this can make all the difference when choose a shade,” says Moore. “Also, make sure you match your face and not your hand. If you can swatch on the side of your cheek or jawline this is best, but if you’re not able to, try holding the bottle to your face. And if you get it wrong you can always exchange for another shade!”
