When you don’t have a saw or need lumber cut down so that it fits in your vehicle, turn to The Home Depot. Nearly all Home Depot stores will cut wood for you, but rates vary from location to location. It’s also important to note that they will only cut wood you buy from them. You cannot bring in your own wood for cuts.

Where to Get Wood Cut at the Home Depot?

You’ll find a large saw in the lumber section at almost every Home Depot location — this is for an associate to cut lumber for customers. While there may not always be associates readily available in the lumber department, you can always seek an employee to assist with cutting your lumber.

Home Depot will cut any wood you purchase from them as long as it safely fits into the saw. However, they can only perform straight cuts and cannot do small or intricate cuts.

How Much Does it Cost to Get Wood Cut at Home Depot?

Every Home Depot sets its own policies for wood cutting. Most offer the first five cuts for free and then charge a small amount, ranging from $0.25 to $1 per cut afterward. Some stores will offer a larger number of free cuts. For accurate information, call your local store ahead of time.

Are Cuts By the Home Depot Accurate?

You can’t count on accuracy when getting your wood cut from Home Depot. The sharpness or dullness of the blade, the accuracy of measurements, and the experience of the person cutting can affect the outcome.

If you have a saw at home and just need wood cut down to fit into your vehicle, consider adding an inch to your cut requests as a safety margin.
