The Haters Won’t Admit Jaguar’s New Type 00 Concept Looks Like A Modern Take On The E-Type

This evening Jaguar released its audacious Type 00 concept at Miami Art Week, with the pink and blue pair of coupes previewing the electric four-door GT that will go on sale in 2026 as the first model in Jaguar’s completely reinvented lineup. Lots of digital ink has been spilled about the Type 00’s radical looks and its extremely controversial logo redesign and accompanying brand campaign — no matter what you think of the car, there’s no denying it’s the most anyone has talked about Jaguar in decades.

Personally I’m a huge fan of the Type 00, and while the haters won’t admit it, the concept has a legitimate design connection to one of history’s most iconic Jaguars. I think it really looks like how the E-Type coupe might have if it had remained in production for the past fifty years, and through the magic of Photoshop I have produced this side-by-side images to show just how connected these two Jags are. Now, these comparison images are definitely not perfectly to scale; we don’t have dimensions but the Type 00 is certainly much huger than the E-Type and rides on 23-inch wheels, so I just placed the cars to be about equal length in these images so you can really see the similarities.

The Type 00 has Jaguar’s longest hood and dash-to-axle ratio in ages, and similar amounts of rear overhang to the E-Type. I see E-Type in the way the Type 00’s nose sharply turns down just at the front of the wheels, and the rear diffuser kinda echoes the E-Type’s exhaust. The similarly shaped doors of the Type 00 create cutlines like those of the E-Type’s doors and hood, using the lines to house hidden cameras and storage. Jaguar also aped the E-Type’s hood in the top-down view, with the Type 00 having a straked panel with a horizontal line at the front and a perfect curve on the other side at the base of the windshield, just like the section of nose between the E-Type’s hood edge and windshield.

There’s a lot of tumblehome (how much the greenhouse curves inward towards the roof along the sides) on both cars, and the greenhouse nicely tapers towards the tailgate on both cars. Both cars have a wraparound windshield, though the Type 00’s side windows are angular at the C-pillar instead of curved. Also from the top-down view you can see just how much the Type 00’s rear quarter panels curve rearward, almost identically to the E-Type, and how the seemingly bluff tail actually has quite a lot of curve to it.

The cars’ faces are totally different, expressive in different ways, but there are still things like the Type 00’s crisp front fender line that reminds me of the E-Type. Again, the Type 00’s rear end design feels totally futuristic, but its rear fenders are similarly wide and pronounced. The E-Type coupe’s side-hinged, slightly bulbous hatch has always delighted me, and the Type 00 has its own weird approach to a liftgate, with that metal panel moving up and forward to expose the cargo area.

So, what do you think? Am I completely crazy, or do you see the E-Type vibes? There is a correct answer, and it’s agreeing with me.
