The news that the Supreme Court had made the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade was announced on Friday, just in time for the U.K.’s Glastonbury Festival. The Festival featured a number of American performers who took a moment to share exactly how they felt about that and rap artist Megan Thee Stallion did not hold back.
Without Roe v. Wade, there is no longer a constitutional right to an abortion at the federal level in the U.S., leaving many in peril as “trigger laws” come into effect in a number of states who want a complete ban on abortion. Megan had some strong words on the subject.
“You know I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t say something about these stupid-a-s men,” Megan began. “Texas really embarrassing me right now, y’all. The hot girls and hot boys do not support this sh-t. My body, my motherf-cking choice!”
Megan Thee Stallion is from Houston, Texas, and in 2021 the state enacted a 6-week abortion ban and criminalized anyone who might help a pregnant person seeking an abortion. They also financially incentivized ordinary citizens to report on anyone they thought might be involved.
Earlier at the Festival, pop star Olivia Rodrigo also shared her outrage over the Supreme Court’s decision, calling out the justices who voted to overturn Roe by name.
“I’m devastated and terrified and so many women and girls are going to die because of this and I wanted to dedicate this next song to the five members of the Supreme Court who showed us at the end of the day they truly don’t give a sh-t about freedom,” she said. “This song goes out to the justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett, and Brett Kavanaugh.”
The song Rodrigo sang was “F-ck You,” the Lily Allen hit, and the British star joined Rodrigo on stage for a duet. She flipped up her middle finger from the stage, adding, “We hate you guys!”
