What are your plans for the weekend? My twin sister is coming to visit and I’m excited to squeeze her. Her celebrity crush is…wait for it…Russian playwright Anton Chekhov, so we are going to see Uncle Vanya starring Steve Carell. I’ll report back! Hope you have a good one, and here are a few links from around the web…

My four tried-and-true ways to deepen friendships on Big Salad today (paywalled), although I think the last one might be a little controversial! Also, the sweetest thing my friend did for me after a mini breakup. 😉

The shorts I’ll be wearing all summer.

Have you seen the trailer for Wolfs, where George Clooney and Brat Pitt play rival fixers?

Every conversation between every parent and their child after one year of college, lol.

Who would like to go to these six wild swimming spots in California? (NYTimes gift link)

Slang terms that should exist.

Wow, the behind-the-scenes of Ayo Edebiri doing the voice of ‘Envy’ in Inside Out. (via Kottke)

Maybe this is random, but I found the perfect fan.

Looooove these gorgeous prints and patterns in people’s homes.

Hahahaha.

Plus, four reader comments (they were all so good!):

Says on what’s your hyper-specific love language?: “My father-in-law’s love language is stocking your pantry. At 61, he discovered he has autism and it has freed him from the pain of feeling like he ‘needs’ to be physically affectionate. I won’t get a hug but I will definitely get $100 worth of high quality organic peanut butter because one time I casually mentioned liking it! Makes me teary.”

Mel says on what’s your hyper-specific love language?: “My love language is words of affirmation. It is my mom’s, too. If you’re feeling terrible or uncertain or insecure, call us up and we’ll turn that around so fast. I have the honor of mothering two little girls, and using that gift on them is incredible. I also just wrapped up reviewing two of my direct reports, and using that gift on impressionable twenty-somethings is also wonderful. Here, come, tell me your worries, your insecurities, and I’ll tell you how loved and able and strong you are.”

Pamela says on what’s your hyper-specific love language?: “My dog Stella and I have the same love languages – we both want words of affirmation and physical touch. I tell her she’s my sweetest sweetie blonde angel dream girl, and she sighs deeply in response. She yowls how much she desperately missed me whenever I get home. Then we spoon on the rug.”

Mimi says on what’s your hyper-specific love language?: “My good friend and I joke that we got the wrong husbands. She wants acts of service, but she says, ‘he constantly tells me I’m beautiful, then lets the door slam in my face.’ Meanwhile, I want words of affirmation, but instead my husband waits on me hand and foot and never says a word about me being cute. Ah, well, they’re both peaches and we will keep them.”
