Gucci’s Alessandro Michele and Harry Styles have just teamed up for a golden collaboration. Over the weekend, the luxury fashion house’s creative director announced a new collection that he designed with the international pop star and his longtime friend.
Dubbed Gucci HA HA HA, the upcoming line name is a nod to both Michele and Styles’ first name initials and represents the “laughing face” emoji the two have used in their text messages to each other over the years (adorb). The duo came up with what Michele calls a “dream wardrobe,” featuring a range of menswear pieces that merge their personal styles with a ’70s-inspired and bohemian aesthetic. Highlights of the playful collection include Prince of Wales check, double-breasted coats, and mother-of-pearl buttons, as well as denim jackets, velvet suits in unique hues, printed pajamas, bowling shirts, and pleated kilts with leather regulating straps.
“Harry has an incredible sense of fashion,” Michele said of his buzzy collaboration with Styles in a press release. “Observing his ability to combine items of clothing in a way that is out of the ordinary compared to the required standards of taste and common sense and the homogenization of appearance, I came to understand that the styling of a look is a generator of differences and of powers, as are his reactions to the designs I have created for him, which he has always made his own; these reactions restore me with a rush of freedom every time.”
“The idea of working together came to me one day while we were talking on the phone,” he continued. “We ended up with a mix of aesthetics from 1970s pop and bohemian to the revision of the image of the gentleman in an overturned memory of men’s tailoring.”
