Combine with Other Coloring Pages to Make a Deep Sea Scene

We have a ton of coloring pages on all kinds of subjects, from turtles to holidays to kittens. You can mix and match any of these pages to create a whole deep sea scene. First, color in your turtle coloring page, of course. Then color in some related pages. Perhaps you want to try out some shark coloring pages or mermaid coloring pages. Or get wacky and pick something like unicorn coloring pages. It’s totally up to you.

Once you have your coloring masterpieces, just cut out the components you want. You could cut out a turtle, and a shark, and buried treasure, and a rainbow. You could add in some bits of seaweed and bubbles to make it clear you’re creating an underwater scene. Then simply glue or tape the components on a piece of paper or into an empty shoebox and there you have it – your very own deep sea scene that you created on your own!

Learn about Turtles and the Ocean

You know when one of the best times to learn is? When you’re having fun. If you’ve gathered the kids around and given them some easy turtle coloring pages to play with, you already have a captive audience. You could combine this activity with a nature documentary or book about turtles. Your kids will learn about turtles while coloring them, and not even realize they’re getting smarter in the process.

Make a Card for Someone Special

You can use these turtle coloring pages as gifts as well. Make sure you print out your image on only one quadrant of the page. That way, you can fold up the paper to make it into a card. Let your kids color the front of the card. It doesn’t matter if they stay in the lines or not. This is a hand-made gift, after all, so all those little imperfections only add to the charm.

Be sure to personalize the inside of the card so your recipient knows this is a gift just for them. If you need some ideas, check out our happy birthday wishes and see if something inspires you.

Create a Bookmark, Coaster, or Magnet

This is a great craft if you want to hang on to your turtle coloring pages a little longer. First, you just color your image as usual, but then you cut it down to the right shape (a rectangle for a bookmark or a square for a coaster, for example).

Next, you should attach the image to something sturdy like cardboard or cardstock. You should also seal it with something like ModPodge. This will help protect it from water damage.

For a bookmark, punch a hole in the top and attach a ribbon or tassel. For a coaster, you’re pretty much all set. Finally, for a magnet, you will want to glue a magnet to the back. That’s it! The process is pretty much the same for all three. It’s mostly a matter of how you want to finish off your craft.

Interesting Facts About Turtles

Since we mentioned combining turtle coloring pages and learning above, we figured we should provide some interesting turtle facts while we’re at it. This is just a small sample. There are so many fascinating things to learn about these amazing creatures, so don’t stop here!

Turtle, Sea Turtle, or Tortoise?

What exactly is the difference between a turtle, a sea turtle, and a tortoise? All of these animals are turtles, but there are some key differences. For example, tortoises live on land and sea turtles live in, well, the sea. Also, tortoises have stumpy feet with nails. Turtles, meanwhile, have webbed toes. Finally, sea turtles have flippers, which allow them to swim very fast.

Take a close look at the shells as well. While a tortoise will have a high shell like a dome, turtles and sea turtles are flatter so they can move through water more easily. And these creatures have different diets as well. Tortoises are veggie eaters, while turtles will happily eat some insects and fish as well. Sea turtles eat a mix of animals and plants. There are even special species within these divisions that have super-specialized diets.

Sea Turtle Nests

Sea turtles are known for laying their eggs on beaches. They use their flippers to dig in the sand, then lay an astonishing 100-125 eggs. And they will lay multiple nests over several months! The eggs take a couple months to hatch, at which point the hatchlings make a mad dash for the sea and safety.

What Is a Turtle Shell?

Turtle shells are iconic on their own, but what the heck are they? Turns out, the shells are bones. That’s right – a turtle’s shell is part of its skeleton. The shell actually consists of more than 50 bones, including the rib cage and spine. This also means that turtle shells need to grow with the turtle. Contrary to popular belief, turtles can’t ever leave their shells since they’re bones.

Turtles and Dinosaurs?!

This one might blow your mind. There are certain species of turtles, such as leatherbacks, that used to swim around with dinosaurs! These guys have been cruising the oceans and seas for that long. And they pretty much look the same way today as they did when dinosaurs roamed the Earth.
