Sun Crafts

Keep celebrating the sun with some sun-themed crafts. These are great to do with the kids on a cloudy day.

Make a Sun that Will Brighten Your Day

Make a sun that can brighten up any day. All you need is some glue, scissors, pens, and construction paper. Cut out a big circle for the center of the sun (tip: tracing around a bowl or cup is an easy way to make a perfect circle). Then cut out several rectangular strips for the “rays” of the sun. Before you glue them on, stop and write something nice on each “ray.” This could be a compliment, a general saying, or anything else that you think could lift someone’s mood. This could also make for a nice gift for a teacher.

Craft a Sun Collage

This one is great for incorporating your favorite sun coloring pages. Trace a big circle, plus the rectangular rays (as in the first craft). Then instead of leaving it blank, fill it in with bits of your coloring pages. You could cut up a sun coloring page zentangle, for example, and fill in your sun with the pieces. Make the pieces as colorful and random as possible for a fun and funky design.

Trace Your Kids’ Hands to Make a Sun

Grab some construction paper and a pencil for this craft. Trace your kids’ hands several times, then carefully cut them out. We suggest using yellow and orange construction paper for this. Then glue them around a big central circle. The fingers on the hands will mimic the look of sun rays, resulting in a sun craft that’s also a sweet reminder of when your little ones were truly little.

Turn a Paper Plate into a Sun

You can easily turn any paper plate into a sun. Unlike with sun coloring pages, you can break out the paint for this craft. Paint the whole plate yellow before cutting a zig zag pattern around the edges to make the plate look like a big, bright sun. You can also grab a marker and add things like sunglasses and a smiley face if you want.

Make a Pasta Sun

This is another fun way to make a sun. A paper plate may work well for this one as well. Instead of cutting around the edges to make the rays, glue on pieces of curly pasta. The little curls look a lot like sun rays. You can also paint over them if you want to.
