A DIY mirror frame is a wood, budget-friendly project that adds both elegance and functionality to your space. It enhances your decor while making small spaces feel larger and brighter.
Materials:
- Pine board
- 4 trim pieces
- 4 detailed interior trim pieces
- Dark wood stain
- Wood glue
- Nails or screws
- Existing frameless mirror
- Clamps (optional)
Step 1: Cut and Measure
Cut the board to size, ensuring it extends about 4 inches beyond the mirror on all sides. Place the mirror in the center, mark the trim pieces, and cut them at a 45-degree angle for flush corners.
Step 2: Stain the Wood

Lay the pieces on a protected surface and apply a dark walnut stain. If the wood is treated, lightly sand it first. Using a rag, wipe the stain along the grain, blending quickly and removing any drips. Repeat for all pieces.
Step 3: Paint the Decorative Trim

While those were drying I took the smaller, detailed trim pieces that will frame the mirror itself. I wanted to spray paint them white. Using the can and keeping it a few inches away from the trim and running it along the trim itself.
Step 4: Attach the Mirror

Once dry, position the mirror on the large board, ensuring it’s centered. Apply wood glue to the marked area, press the mirror down, and add weight (such as books or heavy objects) for about 4 hours to secure it. Follow your glue’s instructions for drying time.
Step 5: Assemble the Frame

Line up the trim pieces and secure them with small nails—one at each end and one in the center. This ensures a strong hold and a clean finish.

The finished mirror blends rustic and contemporary styles, with the dark stain and white trim creating a striking contrast.
