The Lenox Spice Village launched in 1989, but the company discontinued it in 1993 due to waning interest. These nostalgic Spice Villages have boomed in popularity over the past few years, with collectors scouring thrift stores and yard sales to get their hands on a set. They’ve become so popular that purchasing a second-hand set from a site like eBay can cost you around $1,500, or even more in some cases.

Now, more than 30 years later, Lenox is relaunching a second-edition spice village.

What is the Lenox Spice Village?

The Lenox Spice Village became available as a subscription in 1989. Subscribers would first receive the spice rack and a three-inch spice house each month afterward. The small porcelain spice containers were beautifully decorated in botanicals and pastel colors. Each house could store a different spice, such as coriander, allspice, nutmeg, pepper, and celery, with 24 houses total.

Lenox then launched larger storage containers that coordinated with the Spice Village.

The Spice Village sets were pulled from the market in 1993, making them valuable collector items. Their rarity and nostalgia have led to demand in recent years, with some lucky shoppers scoring sets in thrift shops and others forking out hundreds to thousands of dollars to get their hands on a set.

When Will Lenox Release the Spice Village Second Addition?

On August 2nd, Lenox posted on Instagram announcing the upcoming release of a second-edition Spice Village set.

“How do you build a village? With a pinch of salt, a dash of pepper, and the Spice Village 2nd Edition of course!” they captioned. The post has garnered over 10,000 likes and 700 hundred comments.

Lenox has yet to announce a specific launch date but welcomes interested customers to sign up for its email list to be the first to know. You can sign up for Lenox’s announcements here.
