Alfa Romeo is preparing to begin deliveries of its gorgeous new supercar to customers around the world. When lucky buyers get their hands on the new 33 Stradale, they’ll be the proud owners of one of the fastest Alfa Romeos ever after the car surpassed 200 miles per hour in testing.

The Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale is the Italian brand’s new flagship supercar and picks up right where the 8C Competizione left off almost 15 years ago. It’s got a three-liter, twin-turbo V6 engine at the back that produces more than 620 hp and an eight-speed transmission to help get all that power to the wheels.

The slick, aerodynamic bodywork for the car is built around a carbon monocoque to keep weight down and strength up, and there’s a track mode that Alfa calls “Pista” to maximize performance. All of this is with the aim of making this one of the fastest production Alfa Romeos ever with a top speed north of 200 mph.

Deliveries of the 33 examples that Alfa will build of this car are set to begin at the end of this year. Before that can happen, the Italian brand took one of the $3 million cars to the test track at the Nardò Technical Center in southern Italy to see what the new supercar was capable of.

The Nardò circuit is an enormous 7.8-mile ring that’s one of the few places in the world where you can comfortably max out a performance car like this. While it was built by Fiat in the 1970s, it’s now a testing ground for Porsche, but that didn’t stop Alfa taking the 33 Stradale to find out how fast it could go.

The answer to that questions was, unsurprisingly, very fast. In a video of the test shared by the Italian automaker (which you can see above), the speedo is comfortably above 300 km/h, which is about 185 mph. When the test driver floors it, the digits start climbing rapidly to 323 km/h, which tips the car over the 200 mph mark.

Fast but not so furious.

Alfa is targeting a top speed of 333 km/h, which is the same as 207 mph, for the 33 Stradale when it’s ready to ship. The rare model will also get from zero to 60 mph in under three seconds, impressive stuff.

If all this has whet your appetite for a rare Alfa Romeo to add to your collection, well I’ve got bad news for you. Alfa plans to build just 33 of these cars and they’re already sold, which prompted the Italian brand to flash a warning in this video to explain that no further orders will be taken – clearly it was getting questions.

Instead of a premium two-seat supercar, you’ll just have to make do with a hot family sedan or maybe a cutesy classic convertible. I’m sure both of these could make you just as happy.
