A mini flower bouquet to brighten your day! I love the idea of creating a small bouquet of flowers like this one as a gift to a friend, a simple thank you, or even to pop a special question…like ‘will you be my bridesmaid?’. There’s a secret message in this bouquet.

Whether you’re thinking about an upcoming wedding or just looking for a cute mini flower bouquet, this DIY flower idea is adorable and easy to recreate. But more than that, it’s probably one of my favorite flower ideas because it’s super affordable as well. And it’s no secret that I have a love affair of sorts with flowers, so that’s really saying something – from ideas for small flower arrangements to my list of fave flowers for beautiful floral arrangements every time.

Often times, the only downside to making floral arrangements at home is that it can get expensive fast. And I happen to be most drawn to flowers that are pricey, for some reason.

But I do like a budget challenge as much as the next DIY girl, so I try to come up with affordable flower projects as often as possible. You know, when I’m not covering a three foot tall flower ampersand in piano garden roses or creating a flower pendant light covered in calla lilies and dahlias.

Which is why, I’m happy to report that today’s flower DIY pretty much takes the cake on the budget scale. It costs $2 to make! And the flowers are store bought, not picked from my imaginary garden. The trick is using filler flowers, instead of larger blooms, and keeping it small. Super small.

How to Make a Mini Flower Bouquet

If you’re thinking about using this idea for your wedding. Here’s a quick way to incorporate this DIY idea into your big day…

Ask your friends and family to be a part of your bridal party in a memorable way, that won’t break the bank.

These flowers, from a local florist, are extremely affordable because they’re in the filler category. At just a couple of dollars per bunch, you can pick up enough flowers to make five mini bouquets like this one for about $10, making each one just $2 to make.

Materials for Mini Bouquet

  • Scissors
  • String
  • Newspaper
  • Marker or pen

How to Create a Small Bouquet of Flowers

1. Cut stems and strip leaves.

Cut small 5-6 sprigs from larger bunches of each flower type and strip the leaves from each stem.

2. Arrange flowers.

Using a combination of Solidago and Montecasino, create a mini bouquet that is about the size of two clenched fists. I used the same method for arranging as I did with my mini bouquet tutorial.

3. Tie the bouquet.

Tie the stems of the bouquet together with string to keep the flowers in place.

4. Cut the paper.

Next, cut a long rectangle from newspaper that is roughly three times the size of your bouquet.

5. Write a message.

Using a marker, write a message, on the newspaper clipping, to your soon-to-be bridesmaid to ask her if she’d like to be in your wedding party.

6. Wrap it up.

Now, wrap the bouquet in the newspaper, keeping the message concealed on the inside of the bouquet, and tie it off with another piece of string.

When friends or family open the bouquets to put the flowers in water, the newspaper message will be revealed.

My favorite part about these mini flower bouquets, aside from the price, is the secret message. It’s a nice surprise for whomever you decide to give these little bundles to. Once the newspaper is unwrapped from the bouquet, the message is revealed. Surprise!

I think these little wrapped arrangements would be cool alternatives to standard thank you cards, Valentines gift idea/ greeting cards, weddings, etc.
