On Saturday night, Taylor Swift shouted out her bestie Selena Gomez on Instagram, sharing a reel of Gomez’s that she made for her new single, “Single Soon.”
Over the Story, Swift wrote, “WHEN UR BESTIE IS THE BESTEST. WILL BE DANCING TO THIS FOREVER METHINKS.”
The song is a celebration of single life. Gomez sings, “I’m pickin’ out this dress/Tryin’ on these shoes/’Cause I’ll be single soon/I’ll be single soon/I know he’ll be a mess/When I break the news/But I’ll be single soon/I’ll be single soon.”
Gomez described the new track as “a fun little song I wrote a while back that’s perfect for the end of summer.”
Both Swift and Gomez are reportedly single at the moment, with Swift experiencing two breakups in 2023. First, she split with her boyfriend of six years, actor Joe Alwyn. Shortly after, she was in a relationship with The 1975 frontman Matt Healy. Things heated up quickly, but they also split in early summer.
Gomez has been spotted on what looked like dates with a few people this year, including Zayn Malik, Jeremy Allen White, DJ Fred, and Drew Taggart. But none of those relationships have been confirmed. The Only Murders In the Building star often jokes about her singlehood on TikTok and Instagram, so it’s clearly a subject she has thought about a lot.
The musical artist’s last album, Rare, came out in 2020. In 2021, she released her all-Spanish EP Revalación and the song “My Mind & Me” in 2022, which was linked to her hit documentary of the same title. She thanked fans for all the support she’s received for her new music.
“Thank you guys for all the love on Single Soon!!!,” she wrote in the caption. “It’s a playful anthem about being comfortable in your own skin and loving your own company… and it’s also really fun to dance to!”
