If you’ve got a certain amount of makeup, chances are there are a few ColourPop products lingering in your stash. You might have picked them up when you realized you could get the most shimmery, wet-looking eye shadow you ever saw for less than a venti latte at Starbucks. It’s that high-payoff, high-affordability thing that’s made the brand so beloved. Just last year, its Fade Into Hue palette won a Best of Beauty Award.

Now, ColourPop hoping to bring some of that same magic to the hair-care market. The brand is debuting a new hair collection featuring, appropriately, a selection of hair tints and color-depositing conditioners it’s calling The Mane Event. The collection starts with six hues: raspberry, violet, turquoise, peach, silver, and chestnut.

“In response to numerous requests from our customers and communities, our [in-house] R&D team developed un-apologetically bold, semi-permanent DIY hair color for the ultimate self-expression moment — at an amazingly accessible price point,” Laura Nelson, president of Seed beauty, Colourpop’s parent company tells Allure

The Mane Event Hair Tints are made to pack pigment into pre-lightened hair, though on darker hair it comes out far subtler. Think of it as the first step to lay down a base of color that you’ll be able to maintain with the accompanying Colouring Conditioners. The brand notes you can also use the latter if you want to add a soft splash of pastel to the mix. In short: Use the Hair Tints if you want something bolder, and the Colouring Conditioners for a lighter wash or to keep your Hair Tint vibrant over the weeks.

When you’re coloring your hair at home, make sure to break it up into manageable sections. “Be organized about the application,” Brooke Jordan, head stylist with The Bird House salon in NYC previously told Allure. “People can miss spots, or don’t know how to get the back.” If you need a little guidance on how to apply hair-color at home, we’ve got an easy guide right here.

Of course, there’s also the hair-care element. ColourPop added moisturizing ingredients like mango butter to the formula so that your strands can feel extra soft after the treatment. In high concentrations, mango butter, as Cincinnati-based cosmetic chemist Kelly Dobos tells Allure, contains “stearic and oleic fatty acids that help soften and smooth the hair cuticle.”
